Our clinicians and therapists are a diverse group of professionals with extensive experience. We are based in Arlington, Virginia and not only serve the Washington DC area but also offer teletherapy.

Matt Levine, LCSW

As the founder of Summit Counseling Services, Matt Levine, LCSW provides individual, couples, and family therapy. He helps individuals foster a more positive relationship with themselves and their loved ones to move ahead in life.

He is a certified Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT) therapist, which is an evidence-based modality for helping distressed couples and families.

His family therapy services focus on reducing negativity and strengthening bonds through improved communication skills, understanding relational needs, building resiliency, and conflict resolution.

He provides services in English, Spanish, and Portuguese (Brazilian).

Giordana De Altin Popiolek, PsyD

Giordana De Altin Popiolek (aka Dr. D.) is a clinical psychologist with over 20 years of experience working in private and community settings with adolescents, adults, couples, and families.

Dr. D. relies on evidence-based interventions while tailoring services to specific personal needs. Among others, she is trained in CBT, IFS, DBT, TF-CBT and EMDR. She helps people overcome trauma (recent single events such as car accidents, surgeries, etc; and complex, developmental trauma), depression, anxiety, and OCD. She also helps improves relationships, conducting couples, parenting, and family therapy.

Dr. D. believes healing and personal balance are possible. She supports the client as a copilot (the pilot always being the client) towards wellness, balance and a fulfilling life.

Born in Italy, Dr. D. lived all of her adult life abroad. She is a former member of the Virginia Board of Psychology. Dr. D. completed her studies in the US and is fluent in English, Italian, and German. 

Steve Frutos, LCSW

Steve Frutos, LCSW, is a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience working with young people and families.

Steve uses evidence-based therapeutic interventions that he adapts to the unique situation of every individual client. Among his qualifications is a certification in trauma-focused cognitive behavior

Therapy, training in EMDR, and child-centered play therapy. His areas of work include adults and youth with trauma, depression, anxiety, hyperactivity, substance abuse, foster care, and adoption.

Licensed to practice in the state of Virginia, Steve also speaks fluent Spanish.

Rachel Townes, LPC

Rachel Townes, M.S., LPC is a licensed professional counselor with a background in out-patient services, day treatment, and in-home counseling.

She utilizes evidence-based treatments, taking a collaborative and strengths-based approach, empowering individuals to identify and address their treatment goals through CBT, TF-CBT and psychodynamic therapy, among others. Rachel is Licensed in Virginia, helping children, teens and adults address such concerns as depression, anxiety, mood disorders, behavioral issues, grief, and self-esteem.

In her own words, “I believe therapy is both an art and a science; it has been a privilege to work with clients who are discovering their own unique strengths as they face challenges and foster resilience on their paths toward wellness. My hope is that through our work together, clients can discover and access strategies to experience life optimally.”

Mahlet Mekonnen, LCSW

Mahlet is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 12 years of experience working as a community/outpatient clinician, foster care case manager, preschool family service worker, alternative school social worker, and hospital intake worker with children and their families. Mahlet has been trained in CBT, DBT, Infant Mental Health, TF-CBT, and EMDR. Furthermore, she is bilingual in English & Amharic. She truly believes in meeting each person and family where they are and attempting to understand the big picture for every client.
